The Climb

I can almost see it
That dream I'm dreaming but
There's a voice inside my head sayin,
You'll never reach it,
Every step I'm taking,
Every move I make feels
Lost with no direction
My faith is shaking but I
Got to keep trying
Got to keep my head held high

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb

The struggles I'm facing,
The chances I'm taking
Sometimes might knock me down but
No I'm not breaking
I may not know it
But these are the moments that
I'm going to remember most yeah
Just got to keep going
And I, I got to be strong
Just keep pushing on, cause

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes I'm gonna to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb (yeah)

There's always going to be another mountain
I'm always going to want to make it move
Always going to be an uphill battle,
Sometimes you going to have to lose,
Ain't about how fast I get there,
Ain't about what's waiting on the other side
It's the climb (yeah yeah ea ea)

Keep on moving
Keep climbing
Keep the faith baby
It's all about
It's all about
The climb
Keep the faith
Keep your faith
Whoa a oh oh

I have to thank my five year old daughter for forcing me to see the "Hannah Montana" movie to discover this song. Let me assure you Miley Cyrus is not a regular on my iPod, ok she isn't on there at all but this song hit me hard.

I can not imagine there is one person in this world who cannot relate to this song at some point. The message is simple, life is hard and there are rewards but its a damn nice view along the way. Everyone should step back and take time to look around them, enjoy life, enjoy the view.

Personally this song hits home on many levels. For me the lyrics in this song are exactly what I needed to hear. And I will admit the tune isn't bad either.

Take what you will but try to hear the meaning not the artist.

  1. From death metal to kiddie-pop... that's quite a leap, Mardi. Fortunately I still have some spring in my step.

Who would have thought that the daughter of the "Vanilla Ice" of country music would grow to be a pop sensation? Yet here she is, with more money and longevity than her dad ever reached. It doesn't hurt to have the Disney marketing machine behind her, but her talent level and charm are definitely light years beyond even some established Hollywood stars (not to mention daddy).

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fan, but I do have to give Miley Cyrus the respect she deserves.

While I can't vouch for the songwriting, she manages to deliver a soulful recording that never fails to connect with her audience. The vocalization of the song is very mature. If the media vultures, who manage to ruin the lives and careers of most teenage stars, can be kept at bay long enough, she may have a long career in show business.

I personally get a mixed message from the lyrics. She talks about mountains in her way, but then talks about how it isn't how fast you overcome them. At one point life is a journey filled with obstacles we have to climb, but then we get the sense that life itself is the obstacle. There is definitely a lack of clarity in the chorus that honestly makes me wonder what the songwriter was thinking about when these lyrics were penned.

On the other hand, the verses are much more coherent. We all face those times when we need to overcome. We need to perservere and not lose sight of the goal. This is something to which anyone who has ever had a dream can relate. It's all to easy to lose sight, but nothing worth having is ever easy.

Speaking of converting, it would appear that my counterpart is pushing me into a country music direction. Hmmm, this may start to get interesting over the next few days.

    Time to recharge the iPod.

  2. /sigh I knew you were going to put this one up here. I am sorry you had to contend with this Rick, I know Mardi can be difficult sometimes but this is downright cruel. No teeny bop! Hopefully you have it out of your system now and can get down to the grits girl!
That said, there is something to say about the lyrics in this song. It is so true you have to enjoy life on your climb to the top. And I think it speaks to the fact that you may not be on the side you want to be but as you head there enjoy the view.

Ok I am goin to go bash you (Mardi) some more on your other ones. /hugs

  3. @Chris
Mardi and I are going to inflict a lot of musical pain upon each other before this is over, but it's all good hehe.
