We were both young, when I first saw you.
I close my eyes and the flashback starts
I'm standing there, on a balcony in summer air.
I see the lights; see the party, the ball gowns.
I see you make your way through the crowd
You say hello, little did I know...
That you were Romeo, you were throwing pebbles
And my daddy said "stay away from Juliet"
And I was crying on the staircase
begging you, "Please don't go..."
And I said...Romeo take me somewhere, we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess,
It's a love story, baby, just say yes.
So I sneak out to the garden to see you.
We keep quiet, because we're dead if they knew
So close your eyes... escape this town for a little while.
Oh, Oh.
Cause you were Romeo
I was a scarlet letter,
And my daddy said "stay away from Juliet"
but you were everything to me
I was begging you, "Please don't go"
And I said...Romeo take me somewhere, we can be alone.
I'll be waiting; all there's left to do is run.
You'll be the prince and I'll be the princess.
It's a love story, baby, just say yes
Romeo save me, they're trying to tell me how to feel.
This love is difficult, but it's real.
Don't be afraid, we'll make it out of this mess.
It's a love story, baby, just say yes.
Oh, Oh.
I got tired of waiting.
Wondering if you were ever coming around.
My faith in you was fading
When I met you on the outskirts of town.
And I said...Romeo save me, I've been feeling so alone.
I keep waiting, for you but you never come.
Is this in my head, I don't know what to think
He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said...
Marry me Juliet, you'll never have to be alone.
I love you, and that's all I really know.
I talked to your dad -- go pick out a white dress
It's a love story, baby just say... yes.
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh.
'cause we were both young when I first saw you
Taylor Swift 2008
Taylor Swift is a 19 year old with a big voice. I warned Rick I was changing pace on him. Let's take a dip into country music. Taylor Swift is one of the only country artists I really like. I think she has a great voice and is a great song writer. Taylor has been performing and writing since she was ten years old.
The lyrics of this song are a simple, sweet love song. The song makes me think of forbidden love. The boy your parents hated, the girtl your friends never liked. The one love you knew you couldn't have but loved them anyway. I think most people have experienced this at some point. The crazy thing about love is it is the most powerful force in the world yet it is the one we have the least control over. No one can determine who they are going to fall in love with. No one can control who loves them. All we can do is cherish the love we have and guard it with our lives.
Sorry this is so long in the making, I though I posted it :-) It's been a crazy week!
I am a resilient one and have survived this little journey into country music. It was frought with peril. Everywhere I turned there were creatures with fiddles. There was unchecked twanging on the left and vicious ham-boning on the right. These were only tests to prepare me for the worst creature of all - the toothless old guy blowing the moonshine jug.
ReplyDeleteAll joking aside, this lovely young woman does seem to possess a good singing talent. I can't speak to her overall as country music normally comes nowhere near my dwelling.
Musically the song seems typical uptempo love song fare. I say uptempo because it goes faster than a typical love song but not so fast that it becomes a dance song.
Lyrically I'm not quite sure what I could add to Mardi's assessment. It is a simple love song. I have to give Taylor credit, though, as her literary references are a little more clear than Dream Theater's. I am, however, wondering why she crossed Shakespeare with Hawthorne...
But I digress. All in all it seems a good song for the casual country fan. To my better half - Sorry, but you still have a ways to go before you can convert me. I have to admit that I am enjoying the challenge hehe.
I am not trying to convert you my dear, at least not to country as this rarely is on my playlist. Just broadening your horizon's.
ReplyDeleteI know this song plays on Mardi's list often. It is a catchy tune if nothing else. It also shows that Mardi has a soft side...... who'd a thunk it? hehe
